Day 0: San Diego

I spent the day with my family down in San Diego. It was a pain getting all my gear sorted out and finally letting go of my regular clothes and crap that I've been so attached to my entire life. All of the sudden I have reduced everything I use into what I can carry. It's a strange feeling.

In SD today, we spent the whole day eating too much food and drinking, sharing laughs, bullshitting, etc. The lead-up to this weekend was crazy filled with love and support from friends. And having my folks, godparents, siblings, and my partner with me for the last day was perfect. Tomorrow we are hitting the road at 5:30am towards Campo. I checked the weather and  it's mostly clear and chilly at night, and mid 70's during the day. It's expected to heat up into the 80's next week...so we'll see. The water report looks really excellent, with plenty of water along my first 20 mile stretch to Lake Morena. So I don't think I'll need to carry more than 2L for day 1 at least, which is nice.

I'm sure this will all sink in long after my family say goodbye and hit the road back to LA. I have no idea what kind of experience is ahead of me. It's pretty scary, and really exciting all at once.
